Cute Animals visit St. Andrew's

The Easter Bunny came early at St. Andrew's Primary as a family of baby rabbits made a visit to the school.  They were brought in by Mrs Speers a Teaching Assistant at the school who took them around to visit each class.  The children enjoyed giving them a cuddle and I think several would have liked to take them home.

The children in Years 2, 3 and 4 wrote about the visit of the rabbits - click on the heading to read their reports.

Welcome Return to School Lunches

"The most delicious food in the whole of the universe"

"The most delightful food around Devon"

That was the verdict of the children at St. Andrew's Primary this week as School Lunches made a welcome return to the school.  The meals are cooked on site by Mrs Rachel Portlock as 'Portlocks' Pantry' and assisted by Mrs Sam Cawley.  A cheer echoed through the hall on Monday morning when the shutter went up for the first time in several months.  The meals are all cooked fresh each day using locally sourced ingredients.  The school will be organising Community Lunches once again so that parents and friends can enjoy the delicious meals as well.  Look out for more details about this.

Making Recycling Fun

Children at St Andrew’s were visited by Sarah Connors from Resource Futures' Waste Education programme. As part of a topic on Recycling, the children in Hazel class have been looking at ways they could Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The children took part in fun, practical activities to learn more about the importance of the 3Rs. We had a ‘rubbish’ time sorting waste into the correct recycling bins and transformed plastic milk bottles into elephants! KS2 children took on the ‘Recycled Materials Challenge’ and all the children were inspired to spread the 3Rs message to their friends and families.

Small visitors to school

The children at St. Andrew's Primary were delighted when a box of week old Silkie chicks paid a visit into school.  The chicks had been hatched at the home of Mrs Fox a Teaching Assistant at the school.  The chicks visited each class and even the older children fell in love with them.

New Playground Equipment

Mrs Ethelstons PTFA would like to thank all the parents, carers, teachers and friends for their support over the many years in helping to raise funds to support the school. In recent years we have raised enough funds to supply the school with laptops, cameras, music and sports equipment.

We have recently contributed to the school to pay for playground adventure equipment, planting and seating areas to support the pupils play and learning.  These funds have been raised through the efforts of the PTFA members, past and present, and support from the community at the various events held over the last few years.
