Mrs Lin Coley
Mrs V Dower
Welcome to Axminster Community Primary Academy.
Axminster became an Academy on the 1st November 2014. At that time we joined with three other schools, Mrs Ethelston’s CE Primary, St Andrew’s CE Primary and Marshwood CE Primary to form Acorn Multi Academy Trust (Acorn MAT). Membury Primary school and Loders Primary school have joined in more recent months. Whilst our school works under the umbrella of the Acorn MAT and its Board of Directors we retain the Local Governing Body (LGB) which works hard to link with the wider community and to preserve the individual character of our school.
We have built a strong team and we are involved in making staff appointments, and oversee competency and disciplinary matters. We also ensure appropriate appraisal and staff development takes place. We endeavour to improve the quality of the premises and make sure pupils are safe. We constantly monitor expenditure and seek value for money. We do not oversee the work of individual teachers, carry out appraisals or act as inspectors. The running of the school and implementation of policies are the responsibilities of the senior staff.
As a Local Governing Body, we are committed to working as a team with children, parents, staff, the community and all other stakeholders to ensure the best outcome for pupils and we constantly review the ways in which we do this. This is part of our current development plan for the Local Governing Body.
These aims will be enhanced by the continued support and challenge of our Chief Executive Officer of the Trust (CEO), Andrea Rice, and the increased management and teaching expertise across the 6 schools of the Trust. As staff develop and share skills and knowledge together the curriculum and the extra-curricular opportunities for all the children will be extended.
The Governing Body is delighted with the way the children and staff have started the new school year with such vigour and determination. The tone being set by a very smart looking year six is very positive. We are pleased with the way experienced staff have taken up new or changed responsibilities and new staff have arrived with energy and fresh ideas. Ross Minton, our still relatively new headteacher has a clear vision about how to continue to raise the quality of provision in the school.
We look forward to a successful year.
