Learning and Development

The Early Years Centre is based within St. Andrew's Primary Academy and is set up  to primarily support 2-4 year olds to explore and learn through the 3 Prime Areas of Learning and Development with opportunities to begin to develop more skills and knowledge through the Specific Areas of Learning and Development as they progress. The reception class has its own area offering more focussed learning opportunities through the 4 Specific Areas of Learning and Development in preparation for Key Stage 1. All the children also have access to a large shared space that is used for role-play. It is a very versatile space that can be anything from a fairy tale cottage to a jungle! The two outside spaces are joined with a gate and are used daily and in all weathers thanks to our canopy shelter. These spaces will support the Learning and Development in all 7 areas through a wide range of activities. The children are able move freely between all the spaces where members of staff are able to support them with their specific Learning and Development needs.

The learning journey

Each child has their own individual online learning journey on Tapestry which is used to track their learning and development across the curriculum.  It will include photos and notes explaining the different activities your child takes part in.  On a daily basis the adults working with your child will make notes and collect any information that shows specific details of your child’s development. You will be notified when an observation has been added and you can then instantly see what your child has achieved and the progress they have made.  We also encourage parents to upload their own observations and photographs to help us see what you and your child have been up to.
