Welcome to the Early Years Centre

Welcome to the Early Years Centre

Welcome to St Andrew’s Early Years Centre.  We provide high quality learning experiences for our youngest children, from age 2, in purpose built accommodation as part of the Primary School. The team is led by an Early Years teacher, supported by other highly qualified staff. We have excellent facilities both inside and out, to enable to children to flourish in a caring and supportive environment where each child’s needs are developed.

The Early Years Centre is able to access all of the facilities and be managed by the school to ensure a smooth and continous transition into school life.

We currently have vacancies for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. Funding is available for 15 hours a week for all 3 and 4 year olds (starting the term after your child's 3rd birthday). Some funding is available for 2 year olds who meet certain criteria. Please contact the office for more information.

Due to high demand, we strongly advise that parents visit the Early Years Centre and register before their child turns two. This will help to ensure that we can offer your child the sessions you would prefer by allowing us to plan ahead for the statutory staffing requirements.

Please come and have a look at our fantastic facilities to see for yourself!  Click here to arrange a visit or ring 01460 220534. For a copy of our prospectus please click on the information section.

Last week we had a very busy week exploring colour as we learnt about bonfire night and fireworks. The children enjoyed making firework paintings in a variety of different ways as well as making bonfire pictures and handprint bonfire paintings. The children also explored shape through modelling using a variety of different resources when making rockets. Pre-school village walk

Pre-school village walk

Pre-School had a busy morning last week when they went out looking for signs of Autumn around the village. They enjoyed the crunching sounds of the fallen leaves under their feet. Spotted the changing colours of the trees, and picked lovely juicy blackberries.

Growing our beans

Growing our beans
We have been eagily awaiting the growth of our beans over the last two weeks. The children have been watering them and watching them daily to see the changes that have been occouring. At the end of the first week we eagily spied some roots and shoots sprouting from some of the beans. We watered them again and anticipated what would happen next, a few more days past and several of the beans shoots began to grow and we are delighted to have our own mini beanstalks. We discovered that the bean we hadnt watered hadnt grown and the one we hid in the cupboard with no light had grown but it didnt have any leaves and was yellow in colour. The children are looking forward to taking their beans home so they can continue to care for them and watch them grow.

High and Low number walk

High and Low number walk

Today we went on a little adventure around the school looking high and low for numbers. We started the week talking about numbers and thinking about numbers in our environment and where we might find them. As we walked around the school the children pointed out numbers on telephones, the clock and lots of numbers in our outside area on the bikes and trikes as registration number plates and speed number road signs. We spoke about why we use numbers and the different things that numbers tell us. We hope to go for a walk in the village in the next couple of weeks and see if we can find some more numbers.
