Welcome to the Early Years Centre

Welcome to the Early Years Centre

Welcome to St Andrew’s Early Years Centre.  We provide high quality learning experiences for our youngest children, from age 2, in purpose built accommodation as part of the Primary School. The team is led by an Early Years teacher, supported by other highly qualified staff. We have excellent facilities both inside and out, to enable to children to flourish in a caring and supportive environment where each child’s needs are developed.

The Early Years Centre is able to access all of the facilities and be managed by the school to ensure a smooth and continous transition into school life.

We currently have vacancies for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. Funding is available for 15 hours a week for all 3 and 4 year olds (starting the term after your child's 3rd birthday). Some funding is available for 2 year olds who meet certain criteria. Please contact the office for more information.

Due to high demand, we strongly advise that parents visit the Early Years Centre and register before their child turns two. This will help to ensure that we can offer your child the sessions you would prefer by allowing us to plan ahead for the statutory staffing requirements.

Please come and have a look at our fantastic facilities to see for yourself!  Click here to arrange a visit or ring 01460 220534. For a copy of our prospectus please click on the information section.

World Book Day

World Book Day

We celebrated world book day by dressing as superheroes for the day and sharing lots of books that are special to us. We were very lucky to have some Mummies come in to read to us whilst we got cosy amongst the cushions and before lunch we had story time with Maple class.

Shrove Tuesday

Take a look at these wonderful photographs of the children celebrating Shrove Tuesday. We started the morning down on the playground for our pancake races before coming inside to learn about how to cook pancakes. The children loved working together to make the pancakes and enjoyed tucking into them afterwards once the tricky decision of what topping to have was decided!

We Went On A Bear Hunt

We Went On A Bear Hunt

The wind and rain didn’t stop us from going on our bear hunt around school, we weren’t scared and oh what fabulous fun we had. Stomping down the steps, swishing through the long grass, squelching through the mud, striding over the branches in the forest and splashing through the river until we got to the cave! A big dark cave! Did we find a bear? You shall have to peek at the photos to find out. lick on heading to see more photo's

Scenes from "The Bear Hunt"

Scenes from "The Bear Hunt"

This week the children have been learning how to follow instructins.  They have been following instructions on how to use bottles, socks and washing up liquid to make their own swirling, whirling, bubble snow storm.

We also filled tuff trays with water in anticipation of ice forming overnight for our deep cold river. The cold weather didn’t disappoint!

It only seemed right that after exploring the deep cold river sneaking past the hungry hippos and sleeping crocodiles we should enjoy a nice bowl of porridge for snack. The children requested that the porridge was not too sweet, lumpy, too cold or too hot. It needed to be just right - like baby bears porridge! . Plenty of empty bowls and requests for second helpings must mean our porridge was perfect. Please click on heading for more pictures.

Welcome back to Pre-School

Welcome back to Pre-School

A great return to pre-school this week we have had fun sharing our holiday excitements and started some wonderful learning around our book for the half term, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’.

The children have been working hard all week using picture maps to retell the story in small groups. They have also been demonstrating their understanding of the language of size. Sorting and grouping our bears that had got themselves in a muddle and when cutting jelly in to different size pieces and matching it to the different sized pots accordingly.

We are hoping to venture out of pre-school for our very own bear hunt! We plan to go sometime during the week beginning 1st February so please remember to keep your eyes peeled checking the website and pre-school noticeboard for more details, we don’t want you to miss out!
