Welcome to Marshwood CE Primary Academy

Welcome to Marshwood CE Primary Academy

Welcome! At Marshwood Primary Academy we are committed to helping our children be happy, successful and supportive of one another. We have a fantastic staff, small class sizes and have been described as 'one big happy family'.

Founded in 1842 Marshwood Primary is one of Dorset's longest established Primary schools. Around sixty children attend the school and there are three classes. The head of school, teachers and teaching assistants work together as a strong team to provide the children with an excellent education. Standards at the school are high and the latest Ofsted (Jan 2013) described the staff as all ‘sharing a commitment to becoming an outstanding school’.

Children at Marshwood love learning outside. Many of the lessons take place within our fabulous grounds, with the stunning backdrop of the Marshwood Vale. We can even see the sea from our playground!

As a Church Aided School we have taken Mark 12 v 30-31 as our mission statement:

                                                        "Jesus said

                                                Love the Lord your God

with all your heart, with all your soul,

with all your mind and with all your strength.

                                          Love your neighbour as yourself."

At Marshwood pupils are helped to display these values through:

  • A love of God
  • Respect for others
  • Respect for other faiths, creeds and cultures

If you would like to visit our school or would like more information, please contact us.

Safeguarding Statement

We recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. The Senior Designated Officer (SDO) is the Head of School Mr. L. Owen. For a copy of the School’s Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy please click on the policies link under the information tab above. The procedures contained in this policy apply to all staff and governors and are consistent with those of the Dorset Safeguarding Children Board (DSCB).

e-safety Statement

At Marshwood we are committed to the use of computer technologies and recognise the Internet as a valuable tool for learners of all ages. We acknowledge that computers and the internet do have the potential for inappropriate use and access to undesirable material and that we have a duty of care to protect our pupils.

All pupils use computer facilities, including the internet, as an essential part of the curriculum and to support learning opportunities within the school. There are well publicised concerns regarding access to materials on the internet that would be unsuitable for pupils. The school takes reasonable steps to minimise the access to unsuitable material by ensuring supervised usage of the internet alongside a filtered internet service provider which prevents access to specific internet sites.

For more information about e-safety, or any other safeguarding issue, please see the information board by the school office, or use the links below.

Prevent Duty

In July 2015, the Government published advice for Governing bodies, school leaders and school staff. The advice explained what the Preventy Duty means for school and how schools should demonstate compliance with the duty.

The Prevent Duty is part of the school's safeguarding procedures and practices.

Launch of Acorn Multi Academy Trust

Launch of Acorn Multi Academy Trust

Four local schools have joined together to create the new Acorn Multi Academy Trust.  Mrs Ethelston’s Uplyme, St Andrew’s Chardstock, Axminster Community Primary School and Marshwood Primary School have converted to academies and will form The Acorn Multi Academy Trust coming into effect from 1st November 2014. The schools will leave their respective Local Authorities, Devon and Dorset, to become a free standing group of schools directly funded from central government. Representatives of local people will be directly responsible for the quality and development of the education of local children.

Whilst the four schools will operate under the umbrella of the Acorn Academy Trust each will maintain its own distinctive ethos and the parents are reassured that the identity of the three Church of England schools and the one community school will be carefully preserved through the oversight of their individual governing bodies.

This exciting opportunity brings the four schools into a highly effective, close knit, educational organisation which brings enjoyment and success for the pupils and satisfaction and professional development for all the staff. Read & See More »
