At the heart
of our community

Membury School is located in the heart of the village of Membury, to the north west of Axminster. The original school building has been sensitively extended to create a modern learning environment with all the facilities and equipment of a 21st century school. In this area of outstanding natural beauty, where farming, agriculture and rural pursuits thrive, there is much scope for outdoor learning and activities. Whilst our school is a focal point within the village community, we work in partnership with the Acorn Multi Academy Trust,  so our staff and pupils have regular interaction with the other schools in the area. For the children, this is especially important as they move towards secondary school.

Being a small school with fewer than average in each class, we can give each child individual teaching and care, thus maximizing opportunities to achieve full academic potential. We have some excellent secondary schools nearby, including Colyton Grammar School and Axe Valley Community College. As well as the focus on academic skills, we help our children to develop life skills, good behaviour, consideration for others and confidence in their own abilities. The 'school family' is an important ethos for us – encouraging children, staff, parents and carers to be a part of this and work together to safeguard and enhance our school community so that everyone feels included.

At Membury School the National Curriculum is supplemented by a wide variety of clubs, visits and activities. Our children much enjoy using our all-weather pitch and larger outdoor apparatus, our sensory and vegetable gardens, as well as our own forest school. We consistently achieve good progress and believe we offer the right combination of educational and developmental learning for children aged 3-11. Our Pre-School operates within the School and offers an excellent introduction to school life, with many shared activities to ease the progression of young pupils towards full-time school attendance.

With all the advantages of a rural community we get involved with lots of community and village activities like the Harvest Festival, Christmas shows and village exhibitions. From within the local community volunteers enjoy coming to the school, passing on skills and giving talks.

We are really proud of our school, the children, staff, parents, PTFA, governors and the local community. Everyone works together to ensure that it is a warm, positive, caring place in which our children can start to learn to become responsible and happy adults.
