Mrs Ethelston's and St Andrew's Residential Trip to Hooke Court

The year 4 children of Mrs Ethelston's and St Andrew's had a truly fantastic time on their residential trip to Hooke Court. True friendships were formed between all children, who were sad to be parting.

Tasty Treats from the Autumn Menu

On Monday 23rd September KS1 and Reception parents and children were invited to an Autumn Menu Tasting Session by Portlocks' Pantry.

Everyone enjoyed tasting samples from the menu including meatballs, sausages, fish cakes, sticky toffee pudding and shortbread. Rachel and Sam were delighted to meet so many parents and talk to them about the dinners they cook freshly each day. Parents were very impressed with the quality of ingredients supplied by local companies, including Complete Meats, Davy's Locker and Cain's Farm.

We look forward to seeing our KS2 parents and children, as well as any parents who couldn't make it this week, on Monday 30th September at 3:30pm in Woodhaven.

A big thank you from Portlocks' Pantry and the school to the PTFA and Governors who helped out.

Sports Funding

For the academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15 the Government is providing Primary Schools with additional funding of £8000 and £5 per pupil.  Mr Watson from "Go Active" will be visiting both schools once a week to run sessions with some of the teachers and children.  They will be trying out lots of "alternative sports" to encourage children to take up new sports, and the teachers will be learning the rules so that they can teach the children's favourites in P.E.

This term, years 5 and 6 at Mrs Ethelston's and Key Stage 2 at St. Andrew's will be taking part.  The other year groups and their teachers will take part in the spring and summer terms.

Mrs Ethelston's Receives 'Outstanding' in Church Schools Report

Mrs Ethelston’s CE Primary School at Uplyme are celebrating an ‘Outstanding’ rating for their church schools inspection.

Executive Headteacher Andrea Rice commented, “The National Society Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) is the church schools inspection body.  Their inspector visited us two weeks ago to report on our Christian Distinctiveness, RE teaching, collective worship and leadership and management.  We are thrilled to have achieved outstanding in all 4 categories!”

The inspector commented on ‘the caring, harmonious relationships between the children based on the distinctive Christian values of friendship, forgiveness and love’ and the ‘outstanding leadership of the Executive Headteacher, Head of Christian Distinctiveness and governors.’

She also reported that ‘The school is at the heart of the church and local community.  This has a profound effect on the children’s academic, personal and spiritual development, as well as their achievement.’
