Governors

Welcome to St. Andrew's Church of England Primary Academy. We moved to our impressive new school in its beautiful location in 2009 but there has been a Church of England school serving the local community here since 1839. These strong Christian roots and links with both church and community help us to grow and thrive.

After three successful years in partnership with Mrs. Ethelston's Cof E Primary School, Uplyme within the Acorn Federation, St. Andrew's converted to Academy status on 1st November 2014 as part of the Acorn Multi-Academy Trust, along with Mrs. Ethelston's, Marshwood C of E Primary and Axminster Community School.  Whilst the school operates under the umbrella of the Acorn Multi Academy Trust( MAT) and a Board of Directors the school retains its strong Christian ethos and its own Local Governing Body.

The focus of the governors has always been the well-being of our children. We want them to be the best they can be; happy, safe and healthy within a caring, positive and Christian environment which nurtures and celebrates their talents and provides the highest possible standards of education.

These aims will be enhanced by the continued support and challenge of our Chief Executive Officer of the Trust (CEO), Andrea Rice, and the increased management and teaching expertise across the 6 schools of the Trust. As staff develop and share skills and knowledge together the curriculum and the extra-curricular opportunities for all the children will be extended. We closely adhere to our Equal Opportunities Policy and as a small rural school we are aware that we need to offer the children as many different social, cultural and sporting experiences as we can to prepare them for their lives ahead in the wider world.

We shall continue to monitor the work of the school as critical friends, to question and challenge staff through regular visits and reports and we want to know about behaviour, safety of pupils, expenditure and value for money. We value our strong links with our church, St Andrew's, and will ensure that the core Christian values are at the heart of all that we do.  We aim to maintain and improve on Ofsted's judgment of good with outstanding features.

As a Local Governing Body we are committed to working as a team with children, parents, staff, the community and all other stakeholders to ensure the best outcome for pupils and we constantly review the ways in which we do this. This is part of our current development plan for the Local Governing Body and we welcome any feedback.

Although St. Andrew's has its own Local Governing Body we have decided to retain joint Local Governing Body meetings with Mrs. Ethelston’s Primary Academy for the oversight of all statutory responsibilities and school improvement plans for both schools. The expertise that we have gained over the years of federation and our combined skill sets enable us to be better 'critical friends' of the schools for the benefit of the children. An up to date list of governors for St. Andrew's, their profiles and portfolio roles is available below.

All correspondence for the governors must be sent to the Clerk to Governors, Veronica Dower. She can be contacted at St. Andrew's Primary Academy, Chardstock. Axminster.Devon.EX13 7BJ or vdower@acornacademy.org.
